We were totally captivated by the beautiful guitar music played by Richard Durrant at the latest Centre Stage event on 21st April and couldn’t believe an artist of his standard was actually playing in Stoke Golding Village Hall! You could hear a pin drop during his performance until the applause at the end of each piece.
He told us how he travelled on the number 26 bus to his guitar lessons from the age of eight onwards, eventually leading him to visit Paraguay and the home of Barrios one of his favourite composers. He has since played there many times with famous guitarists and composers.
Music included pieces by Barios, Villa Lobos and some he had composed himself including (one of my favourites) ‘the walrus tree’ that he wrote for his son Django.
Unusually, for a classical guitarist, he played standing up and barefoot – operating the stage lighting with his toes!
This was another brilliant concert thanks to the Village Hall Committee.
